We’re one of the SUP schools and SUP rental outfits in Toronto. My best guess from watching ‘Groupons’ and other discount sites, is that there were between 3,000 and 4,000 SUP lessons taught in Toronto this summer. (we taught about 100) That’s a lot of ‘newbies’!

But there still isn’t much of a SUP ‘scene’ or community the way there is for windsurfers or kayakers. I’ve started a ‘SUP Meetup’ group with the idea that I’d meet other experienced SUP-ers who are looking to have group outings, share local knowledge about nearby paddle destinations, technique, racing and so on.

So far it’s been entirely people who are new to SUP who are looking for the equivalent of a cheap board rental.

What’s been done in your part of the world to create a focal point for the SUP community? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
