Couple of us were checking out the swell this morning at Ambleside, and in between surf checks at around 9:00AM, I saw a GMC Tahoe pulling out of the Park Royal parking lot with a couple SUPs on the roof.

Only reason I ask is one of the boards looked like a Tahoe SUP, and I think one of the forum members here has one.

Anyways, bit of a long shot I guess, but I was the guy pulling into the parking lot in a Volvo wagon with a blue Walden SUP on top.

Yeah it was my Dad Kelly who was grocery shopping he said he saw the guy with the Walden and he sais he might have saw your wood board?

He has a Tahoe Rubicon and a Southpoint board we are going to try and get some surf when it warms up in Ambleside.

    Heh, small world!

Mine is the Walden. The wood board's owner mentioned he saw your vehicle as well, he hits up the site every once in a while as well.

We had a good little surf session at Ambleside a couple hours after seeing your Dad. It was a very promising forecast for both yesterday and today, too bad the swell didn't come through. :S

Yeah i wanna start doing some training during this winter for the race season next year and maybe get into some surf just to get my balance and over all skills up on the water. When i was in California i hit 1 wave and it felt amazing for the first time doing it, i was on a Pin 12'6 by Starboard, but it was a race version with a cut in body so your center of gravity is lower for racing.

How were the waves at Ambleside? Post some pics if you have them. How much wind is required for some ridable waves? N or NW? I'll have to keep checking on windy days and get out there sometime.

Waves were very small on Friday but super fun until the winds picked up onshore.

Ambleside needs about 20+ kts W or NW up in the Strait to go.

It's rare, but does happen once in a while. :)

Ambleside is my favorite in West Van, Dundarave can catch swell as well.

Pretty much all the unprotected, West facing beaches in Vancouver and West Van with a relatively gentle slope will have waves when the conditions are right, just a matter of timing... If it's windy in Vancouver you're just going to get blown over on an SUP so the key is watching the forecast and catching it before the wind hits the city.

    Hope that helps!
