An amazing day on Kal Lake.....Since getting my board, I've been paddling in and around Kalamalka Lake and finally decided to give the full length a shot. Leaving from Oyama, I paddled through the Kalamalka Riviera, the connector between Kal and Wood lakes, and headed out towards Kal Beach, due North. At first, a 5km headwind kept things a bit slower but, as predicted by the weather channel, it disappeared and made the journey easier and even more amazing.

Discovered a ton of new coves and beautiful shorelines on the trip across the lake. Somewhere across from Kekuli Bay, the water turned glassy and with a rogue current, paddling was incredibly easy and smooth. What a feeling! It felt so fast and no boats in sight. That was the most amazing feeling. Buoyed by the thrill of being on one of the most scenic lakes in the province, I kept pace all the way to Kal Beach and completed the trip in just under 3 hours.

A great way start the day.

We're hooked and going to start doing rentals so if anyone is up in the area, we have boards available. Feel free to email: Kevin at kevin@high5mediaco.com

    Woohoo!

Nice one Kevin, I've heard a lot of good things about Oyama/Kal Lake area, have a few friends that used to spend a good chunk of their summers up there.

What sort of distance and what board did you use for the tour?

yeah, it's a really great area and we've been going in the mornings to Oyama for breakfast and a paddle. tough summers in the Okanagan. I paddled in Tofino, Kennedy Lake and Deep Cove on a coastal swing last week and just can't get enough. The Shuswap river leg in Enderby was pretty sweet as well.

Looks like the distance was approx. 17-18km and I was on a 11,6' Surftech 'Laird' board. I'm going to try it again from the other direction as soon as we get a southern wind!

That's a good haul for sure!

Next time you're in Vancouver, shoot me an email or post to the forums and we'll be sure to arrange a group paddle!
