Stand Up For CHEO (SUFC) is a non-profit fundraising event for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) featuring the sport of stand up paddling. This year’s event includes an 18km group paddle lasting approximately 3 hours along the historic Rideau Canal followed by an afternoon on the beach at Mooney’s Bay Ottawa where participants can try out different demo boards and take part in a battle of the paddle relay race. Spend the day, promote fitness, have fun and support CHEO!
Event Overview
MORNING: GROUP PADDLE
The paddlers will leave Mooney’s Bay at 9:00am and paddle 18km along the Rideau Canal. The journey should take roughly 3 hours and will require paddlers to pass through 2 locks on the way and the same 2 locks on the way back. On their journey participants will paddle past historic sites such as the Dominion Arboretum and Dow’s Lake as they work their way right into Ottawa’s downtown core, turning around near the Ottawa Convention Centre to return to their starting point at Mooney’s Bay.
AFTERNOON: ON THE BEACH
Afternoon events will include lunch, board demo's, merchant displays and a Battle of the Paddle fun-race. Prizes will be awarded for fund-raising and race participants. We expect the afternoon to wind down around 5pm.
For those who are interested in participating in the group paddle but who do not have access to an SUP, there will be a limited number of demo boards available. Reserve your board early when you register.
